The decision to fight sends you into a sequence of a game that shines with a gripping tale of survival. If you do everything right, you get to watch Lara barely survive the ordeals she has to face on Yamatai. However, if you fail at any point, Lara will go through some tough struggles for the sake of her own survival. Watching a wolf tear and claw through an innocent girl is not a nice sight to behold.
Freezing to death, stepping into traps, falling from heights and starving are a few other ways to see your journey cut short. Eventually though, the game begins to offer ways to fight back. Instead, you are riddled with a series of quicktime events that feel like a scripted movie.
Press X to do this, hold Y to do that. It feels like playing a movie, which is good depending on who you are, but a video game is supposed to be an experience for the player. Once you've got through the opening scenes, which are very exciting, but don't require much skill, Tomb Raider starts to develop.
Lara is still great fun to control, but this time she sounds like she's putting much more effort into her climbing and jumping.
Lara is much less of a superhero in Tomb Raider, and it feels like she's still learning. Controls are well implemented for general gameplay, but some of the quicktime events don't feel right. However, the gameplay overall easily matches that of Uncharted. Since the beginning, Tomb Raider games have had great looking environments, and this time is no exception. It's very often a beautiful game, with stunning views and excellent effects.
Voice acting is good throughout, and the ambient effects are great. Tomb Raider is an excellent action adventure. It feels very different to the originals, with a more human Lara, and much more violence.
